The "Quickening"

"There can be only one!!!"

16 Weeks

Bad Highlander reference but the period that Kristin and baby are into is called the quickening. It lasts from 16 to 20 weeks and is associated with an increase in fetal development and growth which becomes large enough for mom to feel the baby for the first time. (Kristin has not experienced it yet but many women don't until closer to 20 weeks. However, the anticipation is great!)

Per the request of my brother here is the latest from babycenter.com

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.
Ahh good times. Additionally, I have started back up in school again and am taking Peds and OB this semester so its fun learning about all this good ol' pregnancy stuff. And you nurses know how much fun it is taking care of those Primigravidas!!

As I grow...more

I wanted to do one continuous post about my growing belly but it is not going to work out so great. So instead I've busted out my trusted photo shop to compare the last picture to this one... too bad...I'm not posting it yet. I am now at 15 weeks! When I overlapped the pictures I noticed something a little troublesome...my front is not the only thing growing!!! I guess I needed those workout DVDs more than I thought! I'm going to have some serious work to do when this is all over! : )

By the way, this week our baby is the size of an apple...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

We had an excellent Christmas and New Years this year full of lots of fun times with both families. We started early by celebrating Christmas in Branson at Stonebridge (the house is looking awesome!) Silver Dollar City was fun and John and I rode on our first ride with our little one - the swings! : ) We both got some great gifts - maternity clothes, yeah!!! I also got a cool workout DVD which I have tried and it is pretty neat.

When we got back we celebrated with the Farnsworths on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. We had a great time and the biscuits and gravy were fabulous as always! I got some more maternity clothes which was awesome and another workout DVD!! (Yes, I actually asked for them.) I want to make it a point to be diligent about my health for the coming six months.

John got his Bass Pro gift card that he has been wanting and some great stuff for working on his Jeep. You know, manly stuff! This will be the last Christmas where it is just us. Next year, it will be all about the baby! : )

I have been stock piling stuff that my sisters keep buying for the baby. For Christmas, Katie gave us this awesome onesie that has an F on the front. It is soooo cute. There are a couple of other ones she picked out too that are way cute. Then out of the blue Chelsee gave us cool outfits for football season - one for the Chiefs and one for K-State. Grandpa will melt when he sees his grandson...ok or granddaughter in them.

Then for News Year we took a group of guys from home group... Chris, Josiah, Matthew, Josh, and Sean... with us and mom and dad to the Atriums to visit grandma and dance with the ladies. What an awesome time we had!!! It was so sweet to watch the guys go around to the tables and see if they would like to dance. Grandma had a great time! She loved pairing up the guys with her friends who she knew loved to dance. They had a count down with poppers and noise makers... the works! (The count down was around 7:45) Everyone had fun and the guys said they'd love to come back.

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and wish everyone an awesome 2009! (We all have much to look forward to!)
