Baby Farns at 22 Weeks

Our little kiddo is the size of a squash!!! He's getting so big. : )

"At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily."

Shopping?!

For those of you who know me, I am not really a shopper. Some people are spend-a-holics while others are like me... spend-a-phobics. John and I decided last Sunday (a week ago) to take a look at Babies R Us and see what all they have. I was looking forward to it. After all, it should be a fun experience to look at all the fun stuff for babies right? Wrong. The store is like a warehouse and the amount of STUFF in there is insane! How does any new parent even know where to begin?

We decided to start in the stroller/car seat/carrier section. I didn't know you could buy it all together in one big travel system. But then, how do I know which ones are the safest? What if they are poorly made and fall apart right away? Does spending more mean it's better? Do we need two separate systems for our cars? John's Jeep won't fit a carrier in it so we'd have to get a traditional car seat for his Jeep... If it were just about looks it might be OK. But then again there are like 20 different patterns and colors to choose from and they are all either very boy or very girl. I want a neutral color so when we have baby number 2 (maybe a girl) we can use it all again. The sales lady tried to help us out but I was done after about 7 minutes. I didn't come to make decisions I just wanted to look at cribs.

Ok so moving on to the cribs but first we have to make our way through each isle. 10 different pack and plays, 14 different high chairs, 8 different little mat things they can roll around on and entertain themselves with, 13 different baths tubs, 4 different diaper Genies, and tons of little things that I don't even know what they are for... My head was swimming.
Finally we reach the bedding and furniture. No Noah's Ark stuff. That was truly the only thing I wanted to find and there was nothing like it there. 30 different cribs in every different kind of finish imaginable. Do we want a convertible bed? Do the rails slide down or not? Are there plastic parts or metal parts that babies can hurt themselves on? Do we need a bassinet? Do we want a dresser and a changing table or just a dresser that we can use the top as a changing table?

We've only walked through half the store so far. There's still the gliders/rocking chairs...about 15 different styles. Oh yeah, all the various pieces of bedding to consider and the mobiles...we just flat skipped the clothing isle.

I was so close to tears but I held it in until at least we got to the car. Sometimes I can be so irrational! What is with this cry over stupid stuff thing. Needless to say, I need some online research time before the next visit and probably an experienced mom to come with us. Who knows if all those things are really necessary.

I think we'll try Burlington Coat factory next. I hear they have a lot decently priced things in their Baby Depot section.

What Am I????

Thank you all for guessing the gender! Here's what you guessed:

Where you right?

We are absolutely thrilled to find out that we are having a boy!!!!!!! The sonographer asked us if we wanted to know just as she was begining. We told her yes and the very first thing that showed up on the screen was that second to last picture!! I was so excited that I just started crying. John and I are looking foward to meeting our new son!

Can you guess?

Tomorrow is the big day! Take this survey to guess what you think it is!

(I'm testing this survey site out for a project in class. I figured this was a great way to test it! I'll post the results after we announce what we are having. You will have to hit the back button after you take it because it will take you to the surveymonkey website.)

19 Weeks

Here is an update on how much I've been growing. Some women are lucky and have "pretty" bellies while others get pregnant all over... : )

Still no noticable movement yet! I've been waiting patiently and I'm sure it's bound to happen sooner or later. When I finally feel the "quickening" I hope I look back and say, "oh that's what that was!"

Last week I hit a milestone in my pregnancy...I finally threw up! I know - I count myself pretty lucky that it took 18 weeks and the flu to make me do it. For any of you that have seen Monty Python's The meaning of Life scene with Mr. Creosote, that is what I felt like last Monday. "Bring me my bucket." I had trouble holding down food all week. I was worried that the baby wasn't getting enough to eat so I called my doctors office. Turns out the baby will not starve and I have plenty of reserves so no worries.

Next week is the big day. Our sonogram is scheduled for Monday, February 9th, at 3:30. Any guesses on what it is? I really have no idea. Some people say they can just tell. I think they must have some super power that I am lacking! I can't wait to find out what our little heirloom tomato is! (That's how big he is right now... wait did I say he?)
